A great Mozart and Rossini interpreter, Riccardo Novaro has gained international recognition, singing the roles of Figaro at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées and Il Conte (Le Nozze di Figaro) at the Opéra National de Bordeaux; Papageno (Die Zauberflöte) at the Teatro Massimo di Palermo; Guglielmo at the Vlaamse Oper and Don Alfonso (Così fan tutte) at Glyndebourne Festival.
He appeared as Dandini (La Cenerentola) at the Opéra de Paris and the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich; Rimbaud (Le Comte Ory) at the Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam; Taddeo (L’Italiana in Algeri) at the Opéra de Bordeaux; Leporello (Don Giovanni) and Prosdocimo (Il Turco in Italia) at the Opéra de Lausanne. 

Among his past highlights are the Count Robinson in Il Matrimonio segreto by Cimarosa at the Opéra National de Lorraine and Idreno in Haydn’s Armida at the Theater an der Wien. He was Astolfo in Vivaldi’s Orlando furioso at La Fenice in a production conducted by Diego Fasolis and staged by Fabio Ceresa, Bartolo in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Grange Festival with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra conducted by David Parry.

Acclaimed for both his beguiling vocal agility and versatility, Riccardo Novaro’s wide repertoire includes composers as varied as Monteverdi (Testo in Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda), Handel (Argante in Rinaldo; Achilla in Giulio Cesare), Donizetti (Malatesta in Don Pasquale; Belcore and Dulcamara in L’Elisir d’amore), Verdi (Il Cavalier Belfiore in Un Giorno di regno), Puccini (Schaunard in La Bohème) and Britten (Donald in Billy Budd).

He is regularly invited to perform at the most important opera houses and concert halls: Teatro alla Scala, Teatro Regio di Torino, Teatro Comunale di Ferrara, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Lincoln Center in New York, Barbican Centre in London, Opéra Comique de Paris, Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv, Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid, Palau de la Música de València, La Monnaie and Bozar in Brussels, Gasteig Philharmonie in Munich.

Riccardo has collaborated with conductors such as Giovanni Antonini, Diego Fasolis, Bruno Campanella, Emmanuelle Haïm, Gabriele Ferro, Iván Fischer, Riccardo Frizza, John Eliot Gardiner, Daniele Gatti, Vladimir Jurowski, René Jacobs, Ottavio Dantone, Jean-Christophe Spinosi.He has worked with stage directors including Annabel Arden, Robert Carsen, Damiano Michieletto, David McVicar, Adrian Noble, Pier Luigi Pizzi, Luca Ronconi, Daniel Slater.

His extensive discography comprises, among others, Charpentier’s Te Deum with Myun-Whun Chung (Deutsche Grammophon); Handel’s Floridante with Alan Curtis (Deutsche Grammophon Archiv Produktion); L’Olimpiade with Rinaldo Alessandrini, Orlando furioso with Federico Maria Sardelli and L’Incoronazione di Dario with Ottavio Dantone for the Vivaldi Edition on Naïve; Cimarosa’s Maestro di Cappella with Il Giardino Armonico conducted by Giovanni Antonini for the Haydn 2032 project issued through Alpha Classics.

Recent and forthcoming engagements include Bartolo in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Rouen Opera; Argante in Handel’s Rinaldo under the baton of Jean-Christophe Spinosi in Lyon, Versailles, Moscow, Theater an der Wien; Elviro in Serse conducted by Ottavio Dantone at the Beaune International Baroque & Romantic Opera Festival; Dandini in Rossini’s Cenerentola at the Irish National Opera and the Grand Théâtre de Genève; the Mozart/Da Ponte Trilogy at La Monnaie in Bruxelles.
